Week 38: The final countdown

We are officially in “baby week!” This time next week our family of four will be a family of five. Sister and brother (as well as mom) have been counting down the days until his arrival.
photo-1This week has been a bittersweet one. I’m so excited about welcoming our precious baby. I’ve been trying to spend a lot of time with our daughter. I know in the coming weeks baby brother will be attached to my hip. We have been on numerous playdates, a doughnut date—and we still have other fun things left to do this week. I’m sure I should spend my last week before baby resting, but who am I kidding? How can you rest with a 2-year-old and get things ready.
A few nights ago my husband took Addie Rivers and I on a girls “date night.” We knew it would be one of our last times going anywhere just the three of us. We had a blast and ate some amazing meals. I keep forgetting exactly how large my belly is, but then it hit me. I was sitting in the booth and my belly was touching the table. Seriously? All right little man, time to come out. This mama isn’t feeling too “hot” these days.
In a way it’s nice having a date for our scheduled C-section. It gives me a deadline by when I need to have things done. While Addie Rivers was at school this morning, I went to the store to get cleaning supplies. I didn’t think anything about it until my husband got home and asked why I had bought two of everything. Two bottles of dish washing soap, two containers of laundry detergent, and two of air fresheners. The best response I could come up with was: “I’m in serious nesting mode.”
I planned on having a couple of weeks worth of freezer meals ready to go, but that never ended up happening. With my husband being in charge of the grocery shopping for a few weeks, there is no telling what our pantry will look like! But there is one thing I know for sure. So far this week has been spent soaking up memories with my sweet baby girl and husband. As much as I can’t wait for next week I have loved sharing this time with them. Some day down the road Barrett and I will look back and talk about these days. All we want is for our daughter to know how much she is loved. So just a little advice for all the expectant mamas out there: Make sure you spend time with your little ones in the last few weeks of pregnancy. Make as many memories as possible!
