Now that we’re in our last month of pregnancy, Blake and I are eagerly and anxiously awaiting the day we get to meet our baby girl. Her impending arrival has lit a fire under our butts. We’ve given all our spare time to baby prep, whether it’s birthing class, installing the car seat or packing the hospital bag. With less than four weeks until our due date, we are finally starting to feel ready (or as ready as we can be) to bring home a newborn.
At this point, our little bundle of joy could come any day, and that fact has not slipped our minds. The other day I called Blake’s name, in no apparent duress, from the bedroom upstairs. He heard, “My water broke.” Every time I get up in the middle of the night to pee, he startles awake and asks me if I’m OK. Every grimace I make, every groan that slips through my lips, every time my hand shoots up to my belly, my husband is all too quick to voice his concern. Needless to say, we’ve been on pins and needles knowing our lives are about to change forever, and this constant reminder has made us realize something else. Now is the time to focus on us.
We had every intention of going on a babymoon, but no matter how hard we tried, we just couldn’t find the time in our insanely busy summer schedule. With the window for a romantic getaway long behind us, we have to find other ways to bond as a couple before baby makes three. We’ve been doing our best to spend quality time together; cooking nice meals, pampering each other and indulging in frequent date nights. We are doing everything we can to really enjoy each other, including our best attempts at intimacy.

Finding a suitable position is like trying to fit two puzzle pieces together, except one of those pieces has gotten water-logged and expanded to three times its original size. Then, there are those kicks and punches that usually bring a smile to my face. When baby is wiggling like crazy while mom and dad are getting it on, it can be kind of distracting. But it’s OK because when we’re just not clicking between the sheets, we do our best to be intimate in other ways, even if that means a simple cuddle sesh.
We are so very excited for the turn our lives are about to take, but we are also very aware of the fact that it will no longer be just us two. While we prepare for and await the arrival of our daughter, we are doing our best to take full advantage of our last weeks alone. Don’t get me wrong, we are both happy and eager to leave our childless life behind, but we know how important our marriage is. We have to keep our relationship healthy to provide our daughter with a strong family foundation. For this reason, we’re going to be a little selfish and simply focus on ourselves until our baby graces us with her presence.
