Step it up
Since I began sharing the ups and downs and ins and outs of motherhood (and before that, pregnancy) over a year-and-a-half ago, I nearly always begin the week wondering, “What in the world do I have to say that will interest anyone besides me (and my mother and Jacob’s doting aunt Christy)?” I begin to rack my brain, and the nearer my deadlines loom, the more I rack.
Fortunately, my little guy always comes to my rescue right in the nick of time. There was the week he ate a bug, which was not coincidentally way less traumatic than the week he ate his own poop . And, then there was the week he beat up our neighbors’ baby.
I’m happy to report that this week his accomplishments were much more admirable. Cue the drumroll, please. My little guy is one step closer—literally!—to being a big guy. He walked! On his own two little sweet feet! Yep, nine days after his first birthday, he took his very first step. Actually, make that four steps. (When this kid puts his mind to something, he doesn’t mess around.)
He spent the rest of the day trying out his newfound ability, and we were able to catch a few of those steps on film. (Please excuse Jacob’s state of pant-lessness. I must have been too mesmerized by his walking to fully dress him that day.)And, I have a feeling it’s a good thing we did, since it probably won’t be long before the only thing we’re worried about catching is him.
