Reasons to celebrate

This past weekend, there was lots going on in the Palmer household, especially in the world of J-cub.

On Sunday, our little guy celebrated his first Easter.

Okay, so “celebrated” might be an overstatement. Really, he just observed, but that wasn’t his fault. Somehow, the Easter Bunny forgot about him (whoops!), and so he spent the whole day drooling over everyone else’s candy.

I mean, literally, he drooled all over it. (Good job, Jacob, that’ll teach them to eat candy in front of you.) Despite his sad state of candy-less-ness, my little bunny was all smiles. Maybe it was because he got to wear his rabbit hat from his Aunt Christy all day.

Unfortunately, later on that night, our little guy’s smiles were replaced by tears. Buckets and buckets of tears. He awoke around 4 a.m. and rather than nursing and falling back into a peaceful sleep like usual, he was inconsolable. After two hours of crying, Tom and I were at our wit’s end trying to figure out what was wrong.

Then, I ran my finger along his bottom gums and found the culprit: Jacob’s first tooth finally made its entrance!

We were relieved to know what was wrong, excited he had reached such a big milestone and, most of all, exhausted. After sleeping for a couple hours more, we woke up and began to admire his new pearly white.

That’s when we realized there was yet another reason to celebrate: It was J’s six-month birthday!

Oh, and Jacob, in case you’re reading this, getting to celebrate a new holiday, a first tooth and your six-month birthday all within 24 hours was a lot of fun, but what do you say we just take things easy this weekend?

Say, yes, and I’ll buy you some discount Easter candy and let you wear your bunny hat. If you’re really lucky, I’ll even let you knock down some more blocks.
