When my daughter was born two years ago, I used a mediocre electric pump before discovering the Philips Avent Manual Breast Pump, which I loved. Since the Philips Avent Comfort Double Electric Breast Pump is the electric version of my beloved manual pump, I was intrigued to see how it would stack up. Thankfully, with the recent birth of my son, I was able to give it a go.
My pumping needs are fairly minimal. I pump regularly in the beginning (and as needed) to boost supply and to supplement regular feeding. For me, this electric pump totally works.
The instructions are printed on the box and are very simple to follow. The setup is incredibly straightforward. If you have ever assembled a pump before, or even if you haven’t, this one could not be easier. I like how compact the pump is, and I like the small, sleek design. It does include a carrying case, but it stores so much more compactly by itself that I have not used the case for storage.
The pump starts automatically in let-down mode, and then has three levels of suction to choose from. Based on my previous experience with the manual pump, which is incredibly comfortable, I expected comfortable pumping from this electric pump; it does not disappoint. Even at the highest suction level, it is not painful to use.
Two bottle storage containers are included, which you pump straight into. This makes both storage and subsequent feeding very easy. However, given the price and quality of this pump, I am a little surprised it does not include extra storage/bottle containers. If I’ve pumped and used the included two bottles for storage, I will need to purchase additional bottles for subsequent pumping sessions or otherwise transfer the milk to a different storage container (which defeats the purpose of pumping straight into the bottle). The pump does not include a battery option for pumping on the go or a cooler pack for storing milk.
The Double Electric Breast Pump does the job and does it job well, but it does not include a lot of bells and whistles. But for me, since I pump exclusively at home, this workhorse is more than enough, and I would absolutely recommend it to mothers whose pumping needs are comparable to my own.
