When lucky little man Hudson joined the Degreff family last fall, he became the proud resident of this warm nursery. His mom, Steffy, wanted his space to be vibrant and cheerful, and she knew exactly the motif to embrace: “I’ve always loved foxes, so I wanted to create a woodland-themed nursery.” Finding great success, she pulled together a room that fits her style and Hudson’s needs to a T.

On clever design
Spice racks, like these from IKEA, are prime for displaying toys and books.

On getting started
“When I found the rug, I decided to design the entire space around it.
I loved that it was gender-neutral and that orange is such a vibrant, happy color. Without it, I think the entire room loses its appeal. It really makes the space!”

“All the tree wall decals were added individually, so it took a few hours of measuring, making sure they were level and strategically placing them on the wall.”

On playing favorites
“The fox wall mount is a unique and handmade piece, and I think it makes such a fun statement. I purposely placed it above his changing table, so he can look up at it while he’s getting his diaper changed.”

A small, awkward corner in baby Hudson’s nursery inspired one of the space’s most stunning pieces. “My husband and I had the [triangle] shelf custom-made for the corner,” says Degreff. “I love that it is low to the ground, so Hudson can grab books and toys off of it. I have a feeling it’s a piece that will stay with us for many, many years.”

On spending and saving
“Our biggest splurge for the room was the toy chest (shown in top center photo). It’s from The Land of Nod and was a big investment, but I know we’ll get a ton of use out of it. The best bargain buy was the vintage ‘H.’ We found it in a thrift store in upstate New York.”

“My friend Erin gave us this adorable fox needlepoint with Hudson’s initials on it. It is one of my favorite gifts in the nursery.”
