Although it’s much less exciting than picking out a crib, choosing a mattress is equally, if not more, important.
I mean no offense to mattress manufacturers. It’s just that cribs come in different shapes, and sizes, and colors, and styles … and mattresses are, well, boring. Or so I thought.
I had originally planned to head to the red bull’s eye and pick up whatever crib mattress was least expensive. After all, the mattress would function merely as a vehicle for displaying the super cute bedding I had picked out.
Let me just say, however, that I am so grateful to have been offered the opportunity to review the Naturepedic No-Compromise Organic Cotton Ultra Crib Mattress. The more I read about it, the more I liked it (and the more leery I became of my previous run-of-the-mill mattress plans).
The No-Compromise mattress is aptly named—it doesn’t compromise on anything! Its quality, functionality and environmental responsibility are all at the top of their class. The mattress boasts an organic cotton filling, which is natural, renewable and even less flammable than the filling of most mattresses. The inner makeup of the mattress also includes orthopedic innerspring, featuring 252 coils, which helps the mattress meet firmness requirements of the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
On the outside, the mattress’ organic cotton waterproof cover is coated in food-grade 100 percent polyethylene. That’s right: food-grade. So you could, say, serve dinner on the mattress if you wanted to, and feel confident it wouldn’t leach chemicals or toxins.
While we’re on the topic of harmful stuff potentially pouring out of your mattress, it’s good to know that Naturepedic mattresses are GREENGUARD certified. (Have you heard of GREENGUARD? It’s a really neat third party certification program that tests products for emissions.) The No-Compromise mattress meets GREENGUARD’s strict specifications and ensures any off-gassing is at a minimum.
I’m genuinely impressed by the quality of the mattress, and couldn’t ask for more peace of mind than knowing my little one is sleeping in a clean, safe space. The No Compromise Organic Cotton Ultra Crib Mattress isn’t inexpensive, but oftentimes, I have found, you do get what you pay for.
