Me and my belly
Written by: Z. Briggs November 21 2012 My belly keeps […]
My belly keeps getting bigger. I know, this sounds so silly from someone who is 24 weeks pregnant. I get it—I don’t even know what big is—wait till I’m 30 weeks or 40! But for me, I’ve never really had a belly, and I’ve definitely never been this weight ever—even in my college days of eating crap and not exercising, I might have had a bit of excess, but this – this is kind of unreal.
Early on when we first found out I was pregnant, I would put a small pillow under my shirt and look at myself in the mirror and then laugh. At about 16 weeks Chad and I went shopping for the first time to get me some maternity clothes to have when my regular clothes stopped fitting. At the store we went to they had a fake belly pillow that you could Velcro on to see how the clothes that you’re buying now will look when you’re even bigger. Chad and I had a great time looking at the clothes to see how I was going to look. Even then we laughed. Both knowing it was going to happen, but not really being able to fully picture it.
And now, it’s happening. My shirts are starting to be too short. I am pretty much only wearing maternity pants in public, and I think by Christmas, my winter coat will no longer fit. Wow. I knew it would happen, I’ve watched it happen to other women, but it is totally different when it’s your body. It’s also fascinating. How amazing is it that there is a baby that is living and growing inside of me?!?
I went to my appointment with my midwife today and she said that everything is perfect, including my weight gain. I was so glad to hear that. I’ve been doing my best to continue to eat healthy, and I walk quite a bit every day – including to and from work, so it seems that I’ve been keeping myself in check. The holidays are coming up – and I’ll try my best to be good and not indulge TOO much.
