It was a couple of years ago (but it feels like yesterday) that I was laying on the exam table waiting for the ultrasound technician to confirm what I already knew: We were going to have a little boy.
My mother’s intuition had told me it was a little mister from the get go, and my mother’s intuition didn’t fail me with this baby either. For the past couple months, I’ve known in my heart of hearts what this little baby was. And so, last Wednesday morning, when I was choosing what to wear to our gender scan, I pulled out a shirt to match the news that I knew was coming.
What did I wear that day? You could say I was (drumroll, please!) pretty in PINK! Yes! WE’RE HAVING A GIRL!
Let down the (pink!) confetti! Cue the (pink!) fireworks. We have a little bundle of (pink!) sugar and spice and everything nice coming! And, I couldn’t be more thrilled.
042913ku-featureTom and I would have been happy as could be with another boy, I’m sure, but knowing Jacob is going to have a little sister brings a new level of excitement to this pregnancy. The world seems so full of new possibilities all of a sudden.
I know the logistics of having a new baby are basically the same regardless of what gender you have; all babies eat, sleep cry, etc. But, something about having a girl just makes me giddy with excitement.
And, I’m not going to lie. More than a bit of the excitement may be from all the shopping that surely awaits. I didn’t pick any clothes out for Jacob until he was about nine months old, but I’m not sure I’ll make it through the rest of this pregnancy (or this month, week, day, or, heck, maybe even this hour!) before buying something sweet, girly, and completely adorable—just like she is going to be.
