The Inglesina Zippy is a versatile stroller that’s an excellent compromise between size and utility.
Listed as an umbrella stroller, the Zippy may fall somewhere in between that and a standard stroller, considering its weight, flexibility and sturdiness. The stroller arrived almost fully assembled. The remaining parts that needed put together—the canopy and hand bar/tray—were relatively simple (which was a good thing since the directions were not particularly clear). Out of the box the stroller gives the impression of quality materials and construction.
The most striking feature of the Zippy is the simplicity of folding and unfolding the stroller. Folding the Zippy is as simple as lifting the handle of the folding mechanism until it clicks into place to lock the stroller into its compact folded state. Once folded it should easily fit into the trunk of even a compact or sports car. The accessory snack tray is constructed in sections, so it can be folded right along with the stroller without being removed. The well-placed carrying handle on the side of the folded stroller makes carrying the stroller simple, although it seems a little flimsy and may not stand up to long-term abuse. To unfold, simply push the release on the handle and lift the stroller, allowing gravity to open it, stepping on the pedal placed in the middle to fully engage the lock.
The Inglesina Zippy also performs extremely well. The relatively large wheels and sturdy chassis make the stroller easy to maneuver. The front wheels can either be made to swivel or lock straight with a quick click depending on your preference or situation for steering. The handles are easily customizable for each person using the stroller, extending several inches for taller people as well as turning inward or remaining vertical for the most natural position. The brakes are also extremely easy to use, with a single pedal engaging both sides. The seat position is adjustable with one hand, squeezing a handle to adjust the seat from an almost flat sleeping position to upright. The canopy is also easy to adjust and includes a large viewing window. The rain guard is quite handy, and can be quickly applied in case of bad weather. The stroller does have a cup holder, though it is on the small side and not extremely accessible on the side of stroller instead of at the top. The storage compartment underneath the seat is not extremely large, although it would fit a smallish diaper bag.
Another great feature of the Zippy is its compatibility with most car seats with ease. The ability to choose a brand of car carrier and not necessarily have to match up models is very helpful, especially in instances where the car seat has already been purchased. The car seat simply sits atop the stroller seat, with the hand bar of the stroller fitting snugly into the notch for the carrier’s base. There are straps on each side to hold the seat in place and the back of the stroller seat can be raised into the bottom of the carrier for a tighter fit. Several different brands of car seats were tried, including Graco, Safety First and others, with all fitting quite well.
The Inglesina Zippy is an excellent stroller that brings the best of both worlds with the compact folding of an umbrella stroller and the durability and sturdiness of a standard stroller. The simple one-hand folding and compact size make the stroller great for active people, and the ability to combine the stroller with a choice of car seat make it a good value, giving it the ability to grow with the child.
