Fill up first. Have a small meal or a snack like toast, crackers or a bowl of cereal before taking your vitamins. A full stomach can prevent nausea and facilitate absorption.
Think time of day. There’s no reason you have to choke back your vitamins first thing in the morning, especially since that’s often the time moms-to-be feel most sick. Take them when you feel less nauseous, even if that happens to be nighttime.
Half it. Most prenatals can be cut with a pill cutter (check with your doctorto see if yours is among them). For better tolerance, take half at breakfast or lunch and the other half with dinner.
Guzzle a full glass. A sip of water can help you swallow a prenatal pill, but drinking an 8-ounce serving can help diffuse its side effects.
Talk to your doc. If you’re struggling with your daily dose, don’t hesitate to talk to your OB or midwife. There are many brands and forms (think chewable, liquid, etc.) available, and your care provider can help determine the best fit for you.
