Chicco KeyFit Caddy

The Chicco KeyFit Caddy was an exciting product to review. I was amazed how easy it was to attach and detach the car seat, how small the Caddy folded up, and how lightweight it was—both with and without the car seat and baby! It’s truly designed to be user-friendly.
I should start at the beginning. According to the manual, the Chicco KeyFit Caddy is intended only for use with Chicco KeyFit and KeyFit 30 car seats. We tested it with the KeyFit 30, which is a great car seat with many easy-to-use features. It’s designed for babies up to 30 pounds and, not coincidentally, the Caddy is also useable up to 30 pounds. For new parents, the average baby reaches 30 pounds at about 30 months, so it should be useable for a couple years for most of us.
The assembly of the Caddy is very simple. No tools required, just scissors to remove a few tags. The instructions and pictures in the manual are easy to follow, and it only takes about 10 minutes to have the Caddy entirely ready. Once assembled, the Caddy is incredibly simple to fold and unfold with just one hand and one foot. It locks into place to stay either completely folded or completely open. It even stands when folded, which is a great feature when you’re putting the car seat in the car, and you don’t want to worry about the Caddy falling and getting run over in the parking lot! Once folded, it’s about 3 feet tall, 2 feet long, and 6 inches wide—small enough to fit in a trunk, garage, etc. The Caddy also seems very durable. There are no loose parts, and high-quality plastics and fabrics also make it simple to wipe clean.
I was also very impressed with how easy it was to attach and detach the car seat. At the same time, it locks securely in place, with good stability and no chance of tipping. The car seat, of course, has a great harness system to keep the baby in place while still allowing her to move her arms and legs easily and not be uncomfortable. She was “snuggled in” and very happy and content while in the seat and Caddy. Plus, the reclining options on the seat, as well as the shading options are easily adaptable to various conditions to keep her happy and her parents worry-free! The seat is roomy enough and the harness adaptable enough for future growth too. Again, an average-sized baby has the potential to use the KeyFit car seat and Caddy up to two-and-a-half years!
There are some great parent functions on the Caddy, as well. The first thing I checked, being long-legged and 6-feet tall is the adjustability of the handle. It moves very easily, and actually has an even higher setting than the one I used it on! Of course, it goes quite a bit lower too. There are two drink holders and a compartment that closes securely which seems great for putting your keys or a small wallet in. They will even stay dry there if it is raining or something spills. Additionally, there’s quite a bit of storage on the bottom. It was more than enough for the things we had. The best part of the storage is that it is easily accessible from the front or back, but it is still secure so things won’t be falling out.
The wheels are rubber and about 5-inches in diameter. They are certainly sufficient for day-to-day use, but may have difficulty navigating large rocks or sand. The front two wheels swivel completely around, and the back two each have their own brake, which is easily engaged or released with the flick of your foot.
Finally, the Caddy is aesthetically pleasing and draws a lot of compliments and notice. It’s a sharp addition for a fashionable mom!
The only downside we found to the Caddy is that once baby outgrows her car seat, she also outgrows the stroller. However, the convenience the Caddy provides and the frequency with which it will be used make the purchase worthwhile in our book.
