Simply stated—the BabyBjorn Baby Carrier Original is classic. It is very stylish and sleek and is available in 5 gender-neutral colors: city black, city blue, new navy, pinstripe, and chocolate brown. This carrier is a piece that will certainly last through the first year of your little’s one life or possibly longer. The carrier has a weight limit of 25 pounds but can be used with newborns as small as 8 pounds in the rear-facing position and offers head and neck support. By the time my husband and I made the switch to the BabyBjorn, my daughter was already 11 pounds and could sit comfortably forward-facing or rear-facing.
Out of the box, the Bjorn seems a little confusing to put on. The instructions are printed on the inside of the carrier and the latches are color-coded, which greatly helps with the step-by-step process. After the initial set up, it was effortless to put on and take off – especially with the ability to make all the adjustments in the front. The entire front panel can be unsnapped and removed, allowing ease in putting and strapping your baby in with no help!
The Bjorn has been a nice relief for my back! We tried a couple different brands—one we purchased ourselves (Chicco brand) and another (Evenflo Snugli brand) that a friend gave us. Both caused sore shoulders and back pain within a couple hours of using them. The Bjorn has two thick, adjustable straps that cross in the back to evenly distribute the weight and provide back support. The straps are wide and generously padded that help to eliminate shoulder and neck strain, if properly adjusted. I’m 5’ 6” and my husband is 6′ 1″ and we can both use it. The Bjorn is made of cotton fabric and is machine washable.
This carrier can be used for so many different activities. I wear it to carry my daughter while shopping, cleaning, running errands, taking our dogs for a walk, and many countless outdoor activities. What I like most about the carrier is how easy it makes shopping trips. I no longer have to mess with the car seat. I admit—I was one of those moms at the grocery store struggling to fit things into the cart around the car seat or I would have my husband go with me to push around the stroller or another cart.
My daughter loves to watch everything in the front-facing position and she snoozes when rear-faced. She feels secure in the BabyBjorn and enjoys the soft bouncing. One note about the design of this product is that it does not offer a way to breastfeed while wearing it. This could be a downside to those that would like to have this option. Another aspect that may be worth mentioning is that in the Bjorn the baby’s legs hang down, not out to the side. This could be an issue when trying to sit down with the baby in the carrier.
The carrier is small enough to pack in any diaper bag. Whether you are on the go or in the house, this carrier keeps your baby close and secure while keeping your hands free to do other things!
