Attention Deficit Disorder, pregnant style

You know the stereotype of the woman who is clingy, desperate for attention, and altogether entirely too … female?
Well, lately, I am that girl. (Insert guilty face here.)

When it comes to getting Tom’s attention, I’m like a lion stalking a rabbit these days. Constantly lying in wait for the right moment (or any moment really) to spring my oversized body onto the unsuspecting guy.

Wait, that sounds entirely too sexy. Let me assure you, it’s not.

In my pre-Tom days and into my marital union, I would rather have been anything but needy. Oh, how the tables have turned. Over the past few weeks, I have developed the classic symptoms of Pregnant Wife Attention Deficit Disorder. No matter how much attention I get from my husband, I still need more. It’s like how I felt about food in my second trimester.

I think that realizing our happy twosome will become a happy threesome in less than six weeks has made me desperate to suck up all the one-on-one time with Tom that I can until our focus is (rightfully) devoted elsewhere.

Case in point: I just squeezed my chair into our 3-foot by 8-foot kitchen so that I could hang out with him while he was making breakfast. Why? Because the couch where I was sitting was a WHOLE fifteen feet away. Shudder the thought!

To his credit, Tom has endured my bear-like grip with complete understanding. I haven’t decided whether this is a result of his good nature or because I now outweigh him by 30-ish pounds and he’s a frightened of me. Either way, he’s been a trooper.

In fact, to my surprise, he told me a few days ago that he’s also realized that the sun is setting on our “couple time” as we currently know it, and he wants to make the last few weeks count as much as I do. (What a guy!)

Since then, we have been doing just that—from taking a few extra minutes in the morning to eat breakfast together to playing endless rounds of cards or just sitting and talking for hours. Not exactly earth-shatteringly romantic stuff, but to this soon-to-be-mama, it means the world.

So, my advice to readers in the same boat: If you’ve been feeling a little extra clingy lately, don’t try to hide it. Chances are, your guy will enjoy knowing that in the bustle of getting ready for baby, you still want him more than ever. And, you’ll get the extra prebaby attention you're craving. It’s a win-win for everyone.

Oh, and one more thing: If you’ve found yourself with bear-claw-itis in the weeks leading up to your due date, share your experience with us in the comment section below. It’s always nice for us pregnant ladies (okay, me!) to know we’re not alone.
