Actress Rosie Pope enlisted the help of designer Vanessa Antonelli to create the perfect nursery for her 2-month-old daughter Bridget Monroe.
Vanessa Antonelli created a feminine, functional space in the actress’ home.
CBS: We’re so excited to hear all about the new baby nursery! Please tell us about the design and theme.
RP: “I wanted a room that would grow with Bridget as her needs in a room change as she grows and explores. I also wanted it to be a lovely imaginative place for our other kids to play and bond with our newest addition. The color theme is very girly and pure: white, pink, gold and charcoal grey but I made sure the textures were exciting to spice up the room using leather, wall relief, papier mâché and unconventional prints.”
CBS: How did you come up with ideas? Where did you go for inspiration?
RP: “I always think about things that would stimulate imagination in my children’s play when it comes to nurseries – unicorns, textures, colors, fabrics that are different – and then combine this with soothing elements so that the room is a relaxing place to be. Children’s and baby’s rooms should be like entering a wonderland world – you can take risks that you may not take when decorating your kitchen or living room!”
CBS: What’s your absolute favorite element?
RP: “The DucDuc changing table with the gold hardware I added and surprise pink drawer interiors. I have to say though that my white leather oilo glider with pink piping is also a favorite of mine. Leather is so unconventional for a glider but it’s sleek and easy to clean compared to fabrics like cotton!”
CBS: What advice do you have for expectant parents when it comes to designing a nursery?
RP: “Design a room that you love to be in as much as your baby because it’s a room for both of you as you will spend countless hours in there together bonding, playing and learning about each other.”
CBS: How about advice for managing a household of four kids?
RP: “It’s the same advice as a household of one kid: learn to be in every moment so they don’t pass you by in the chaos of everyday. It’s not an easy skill but well worth working on.”
CBS: How did you approach the nursery design this time around for Rosie?
VA: Rosie’s personal style is soft and for a little girl, distinctively feminine. It’s always important to me that the parents love the end result, so their opinion is my first priority.
CBS: What kinds of things were important to her in the nursery design and layout?
VA: Rosie has done this 3 times already, so she knows what she needs. Functionality was key! That included a crib, changing table, glider and also a place for her other children to sit and spend time with their baby sister. Rosie lives in a beautiful 100 year old home with a lot of unique elements. One is that the hardware in the home is gold and there were already gold shelves in the room. I wanted to stick with the backbone of the house and incorporate everything, instead of fighting against it. So, Bridget’s room is white, pink and gray with stand out gold accents. It was perfect because gold is back and so chic right now.
CBS: When parents have already been through several nursery designs previously, how do you advise them to make this one unique and special?
VA: When there are multiple children, I notice often parents want to place a crib in the room and call it a day. With life happening around us at a rapid pace, I completely understand that. It’s hard to find the time to create a nursery and with experience, it may not seem like a priority. I always try to stress that it won’t take long to create a unique space just like their first child had and in the end they will be happy that the new baby has their own special place created for them with love. It’s also ok to re-use things. Everything does not have to be new to look fresh. Pick a few new things like a different color pallete or different artwork and it’s very easy to put together a nursery with a new perspective.
