I’m fully aware that summer doesn’t technically start until mid-June, but once May rolls around and the school year begins to wind down, I find myself shifting into “summer-mom” mode. I’m suddenly much more likely to say yes to requests for frozen treats. Dirty footprints and grass clippings on my kitchen floor are now acceptable. And bedtime becomes a bit more negotiable since, after all, the sun gets to stay up late.

I love soaking up the summer with my family. There is a unique joy that comes over me when I watch my daughters running around on a humid day with sun-kissed cheeks, wet stringy hair, and brightly colored dresses. And when I tuck them into bed at night, knowing with certainty that they will sleep well after a day filled with laughter and play, the satisfaction I feel is unmatched. Plus, there’s nothing like spending a summer evening sitting under a string of market lights on my patio with a drink in my hand and my husband next to me—and maybe even a s’more if we’re feeling extra festive.

It’s true that May is typically synonymous with all things spring, but we are ready to dive into summer (pun intended). Our enthusiasm for the warm, sunny days ahead is what helped us craft this month’s list of favorite finds. Join us in getting stocked up for the season now, so that we can enjoy every minute of it when it finally, technically arrives.

BuzzPatch Mosquito Repellent Stickers

The only thing worse than struggling with itchy bug bites yourself is seeing your little one suffer the same fate. While they may be effective, bug sprays are smelly and often have questionable ingredients, which is why we love these mosquito-repellent stickers. A single pack comes with 60 kid-safe stickers in fun designs. Each sticker is effective for 24 to 72 hours, is made with non-toxic ingredients, and is water resistant. Stick one of these on the back of your kiddo’s shirt before heading to the park, when they’re playing in the backyard, or during a family hike, and breathe easy knowing they won’t be covered in bites when they come inside (and feel free to use them yourself, too).

Pottery Barn Kids Watermelon Hooded Towel

What is cuter than a toddler in a hooded towel? A toddler in a hooded towel that resembles sweet summer fruit, that’s what. As the summer heats up, you’ll probably be spending a lot of time around the water, whether it’s swimming, running around at a splash pad, or playing with a water table, so your tot will surely need a towel for drying off. We love this watermelon hooded towel that’s measured for kids up to 33 inches tall. It’s made from 100% cotton velour, making it breathable, machine washable, and oh-so-soft.

Lululemon Baller Hat

As beautiful as influencer-style beach hats are, they aren’t always practical for parents of young kids. I did a deep internet dive last month in search of the perfect baseball cap, and I eventually landed on this soft hat from Lululemon, and I could not be happier. It’s lightweight and breathable, has an adjustable back with a pocket to tuck away the strap, and it’s quick-dry and sweat-wicking, so you won’t feel like you’re overheating on a hot day. It’s available in five shades, and it’s perfect for wearing at the pool, while you’re working in the yard, on a trip to the zoo, or basically anywhere you need a little protection from the sun.

Amazon Silicone Popsicle Molds

There’s nothing quite like a cold popsicle on a sweltering day. If you’re looking to go easy on the sugar or save a little money (or both!), make your own pops with these silicone popsicle molds. Each pack comes with six molds that are shaped like the classic freeze-pops we all remember from childhood—except the silicone case makes them much easier for little hands to hang on to. Simply fill the mold with your treat of choice, close the cap, and let it freeze for a few hours. Once your kiddo has finished their snack, rinse and clean the sleeve using the included brush.

Target Kids’ Croquet Lawn Set

If you aren’t familiar with Target’s summer gear brand, Sun Squad, then you’re in for a treat.  There are so many great buys we could have included on this list, but we ultimately landed on this adorable 24-piece croquet set. It includes six wooden mallets, six colorful wooden balls, wooden stakes, steel wire wickets, and a storage bag that features a drawstring close and a carrying handle. The set is designed for kids, with each mallet measuring 24 inches long, but grown-ups can still join in for a fun family game.

Babo Botanicals Mineral Tinted Sunscreen Stick

Sunscreen is essential this time of year, but what you put on your body may not be ideal for your face. This tinted mineral sunscreen stick is formulated specifically for the face and for everyday wear. It’s lightweight and sheer, leaving your skin with a dewy glow rather than a greasy glaze. Made with zinc oxide and other plant-based ingredients, the sunscreen offers broad-spectrum SPF 50 protection and is water-resistant and fragrance-free. It’s safe for the whole family to use, but it’s especially great for adults.
