What I like best about the HALO Bassinest Swivel Sleeper is our baby is in the bed with us, but he’s protected in his own sleep area. The base of the Bassinest is very stable and adjusts to fit our bed. (We have actually looked at bassinets in the past, and we could never find one tall enough for our bed.) I also really like how the Bassinest moves 360 degrees, so I can move my son closer to me if I need to, and it also makes it very easy to get in and out of bed without disturbing him too much.
The instruction manual is very practical. It gets straight to the point by letting you know what tools you will need (just a Phillips head screwdriver!) and that batteries are included. The instructions are very easy to understand, and the illustrations help a lot. My husband actually assembled the Bassinest, and I helped by reading the directions. Assembling the Bassinest took about 10 minutes, if that.
The Bassinest is very high quality. It’s easy to maneuver and adjusts very smoothly. The sleep area is easy to move up and down and all around. All you have to do is loosen the adjustment knob, get it situated where you want it, then tighten it to make the sleep area stay in place. The sleep area also swivels 360 degrees, so it’s easy to get in and out of bed. The one wall of the sleep area lowers easily and returns back to its position. This wall can also be locked into place.
The Bassinest doesn’t take up very much space in our bedroom. There are four legs on the base, and two of them can slide under your bed so it will have a smaller footprint. (Although it takes up less room in the bedroom, packing it in my trunk would be a little difficult. I have a smaller car, so we would have to take it apart for it to fit. However I do think there would be plenty of space to travel with the Bassinest in the back of an SUV.)
The main two reasons why my husband and I love the Bassinest so much is we find it safe and convenient. The walls are mostly mesh, so I can sleep a little easier knowing our baby has the utmost breathability. They also lower, so it’s easier to take care of him in the middle of the night. The Bassinest has two storage pockets, which are so handy. We store about four or five diapers in one and wipes and creams in the other, so everything is close by for midnight diaper changes.
There’s also a built-in “soothing center” that includes a night-light, a sound machine that plays songs/sounds, a vibration unit and a nursing timer. Although these bonus features are very nice to have, we’ve only used it once or twice because our little man sleeps fine without them.
Our baby loves the Bassinest. There is plenty enough room for him to stretch out, and he likes to touch the mesh siding. He seems pretty comfortable in it, but I do normally place a soft blanket underneath him for extra comfort. (It’s built to hold infants up to 30 pounds or 5 months of age, so we have one more month to go!) Our son only sleeps in the Bassinest at night and usually sleeps 4-6 hours—just depending on how hungry he is; he’s a little piggy sometimes.
When messes happen (they always do), it’s easy to clean. The sheet for the pad is removable and machine-washable. The pad, mesh, sleep area and base can be cleaned with a mild cleaning solution and damp cloth. (The manufacturer suggests that the sheet needs to be washed before use and the pad, mesh, sleep area and base should be cleaned regularly.)
I would recommend this product to anyone who has a baby that meets the age and weight requirements. I think the it’s reasonably priced for all the features it includes. The HALO Bassinest is by far the best co-sleeping device/bassinet we have found. HALO has truly created a product that makes having an infant easier for the parents (especially if mommy is recovering from a C-section!). Having your baby close enough to touch but in a safe environment is a good feeling to have, so you can sleep without worrying about your little one.
