I can’t say enough good things about the Ergobaby ADAPT carrier. With my first baby (so over 6 years ago now) I had a BabyBjorn. I never loved it because whenever I wore it for any length of time, I would come away with a backache. I tried the a wrap with Baby No. 2, but it was too much effort to get it wrapped properly and not strangle myself in the process. With Baby No. 3, a friend gave me a hand-me-down Ergobaby carrier, and I loved it! By the time I got it as a hand-me-down, Baby No. 3 wasn’t a newborn anymore, so I never had to worry about an insert. When Baby No. 4 came along, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do for a carrier because I didn’t have the newborn insert for the Ergo, and I didn’t want to go buy one to only use for a short time.
Enter the ADAPT. It doesn’t require a newborn insert! It can be used, as is, with babies weighing as little as 7 pounds! Baby No. 4 was born at 8 pounds, 8 ounces, so she was ready for the ADAPT from the very start. It was perfect!
The instructions are very easy to follow. The pictures are helpful in showing exactly what goes where. I do think that the written instructions that go along with the pictures could be a little more extensive. The pictures are great, but a written description of what the picture is showing would have been helpful, too, in making sure I was doing everything properly. I do like that the pictures illustrate both the proper and improper way to use the carrier. That makes it easy to know if you’re wearing it properly!
I love that the ADAPT is machine-washable. We experienced a major diaper blowout while using the carrier, and all I had to do was pop it into the machine and then let it air dry. It was as good as new! Can’t beat that convenience.
My baby is 11 weeks old, and we use the ADAPT several days a week while we’re out and about at her big brother’s baseball games, grocery shopping, etc. Next week we’re headed on a cross-country trip where we’ll be schlepping through several airports as we make our way back east, and I know that we’ll be using the ADAPT to carry Baby No. 4. I am not worried about getting to our destination and having a backache because the the carrier has a lumbar support waistband that eliminates the back pain I experienced in the past with other carriers.
And as baby gets bigger, I know that we’ll get lots of use out of the carrier still, as it easily adapts to allow for me to carry the baby on my back. I have yet to try the carrier in the hip carry position but once she is big enough, I will definitely give it a try!
The price point seems fair. $145 is expensive, but I would have no problem recommending this product. It may be slightly more expensive than some other carriers on the market but, in my opinion, it is worth it if, for nothing else, it doesn’t give you back pain. Plus, the whole use-it-from-birth-without-an-insert thing!
My carrier is the Pearl Gray color which is a nice neutral. If I were buying it for myself, I might choose the black option only because the gray will show the dirt easier. But, from my experience with a black BabyBjorn, the black easily shows all the spit up that inevitably occurs. So maybe the gray is a good choice for that reason!
I could not be happier with the ease and functionality of the Ergobaby ADAPT. As a busy mom of four kids ages 6 and under, I need my hands free, and this carrier provides just that. Being able to use it from the very beginning with my daughter and knowing that it will get us through until she’s a toddler (up to 45 pounds!) as well makes this the perfect choice for any busy mom who is looking for a durable, functional, quality carrier.
