As a first-time mom taking my newborn daughter home from the hospital, I was nervous about many things. Perhaps surprisingly, bathtime was one of them. I’d heard stories from friends with kids who warned me that the first couple baths might be a bit of a shock, both for me and the baby. We actually stuck to sponge baths over the kitchen sink for the first few weeks—even after her umbilical cord had fallen off—because I was nervous about graduating her to the “big girl bath.” But after using the Skip Hop Moby Smart Sling 3-Stage Baby Tub just once, I am a huge fan. Even more importantly, my daughter, Campbell, is too!
The Moby tub is great for both infants and toddlers, and it has several different mechanisms that allow it to transition with your baby. The mesh sling can be rolled up to accompany a growing tot, or it can be completely removed once baby is big enough to sit up on her own. The sling is easily positioned and secured by clamping it into place over the sides of the tub.
Although there is a manual that comes with the tub, I found most of the assembly to be intuitive. It only took a few minutes to put the mesh insert together. Obviously we have a few months before Campbell won’t need the sling anymore, but we will definitely still be using this tub when that time comes.
This tub is a bit larger than some of the other tubs I had researched when building our baby registry. While some infant tubs will fit in a double kitchen sink, this one definitely needs to be placed in the bathtub. My husband and I have a large jacuzzi tub in our bathroom, and we lean over the side of it to give her a bath.
My favorite part about this tub is the no-slip mesh insert. Since the tub is so large, I was afraid Campbell would keep slipping down into the basin of the tub and we would have to constantly reposition her. However, the mesh helps keep her in place and is also super soft so as not to rub against her fragile newborn skin.
Besides being cute and stylish, it is also super functional, which any parent can appreciate. There is also a hook at the top of the tub that makes is easy to hang from a curtain rod or towel rack to dry after use. The drain at the bottom makes cleaning up fast.
The color is gender neutral, and the strong durability will make this the only tub we use throughout Campbell’s first years. She loves bathtime and coos the entire time, which is a relief for this exhausted new mama! I would highly recommend this product to everyone I know.
