Skip Hop Moby Smart Sling 3-Stage Tub
As a first-time mom taking my newborn daughter home from the hospital, I was nervous about many, many things. Perhaps not surprisingly, bathtime was one of them. I’d heard stories from friends with kids who warned me that the first couple baths might be a bit of a shock, both for me and the baby. We actually stuck to sponge baths over the kitchen sink for the first few weeks—even after her umbilical cord had fallen off—because I was nervous about graduating her to the “big girl bath.” As with all the other baby gear we put on our registry, (baby carriers, strollers, diaper bags, and everything else) I did a lot of research on the best baby bathtubs. After using the Skip Hop Moby Smart Sling 3-Stage Baby Tub just once, I am a huge fan. Even more importantly, my daughter, Campbell, is too!
Setting Up the Skip Hop Moby
Although there is a manual that comes with the tub, I found most of the assembly to be intuitive. It only took a few minutes to put the mesh sling together. Obviously we have a few months before our little munchkin won’t need the sling anymore, but we will definitely still be using this tub when that time comes. The sling is easily positioned and secured by clamping it into place over the sides of the tub.
Skip Hop Moby Bathtub Stages
The Moby baby bath tub is great for both infants and toddlers, and it has several different ergonomic positions that allow it to transition with your baby. The upper position (Stage 1: newborn) cradles your baby head-to-toe. In Stage 2, it can be rolled up to accompany a growing tot who hasn’t quite mastered sitting, providing a comfy place for her to recline. In Stage 3, you can completely remove the sling when your little one is big enough to sit up on her own, with no uncomfortable plastic bumps on the non-slip bottom.
This tub is a bit larger than some of the other tubs I had researched when building our baby shower wishlist. While some infant tubs will fit in a double kitchen sink, this one definitely needs to be placed in the bathtub. My husband and I have a large jacuzzi tub in our bathroom, and we kneel on the bathmat and lean over the side of it to give her a bath.
My favorite part about this infant bath tub is the non-slip mesh sling. Since the tub is so large, I was afraid Campbell would keep slipping down into the basin of the tub and we would have to constantly reposition her. However, the baby bath support sling helps keep her in place as we gently clean her with a washcloth, and is also super soft so as not to rub against her fragile newborn skin.
Overview
Besides being PVC and phthalate-free, the Skip Hop Moby Smart Sling 3-Stage Tub is also super functional, which any parent can appreciate. We also opted for the Skip Hop Moby rinser in blue, which doubles as a fun bath toy. There is a swivel hook at the top of the tub that makes is easy to hang the tub from a showerhead or towel bar to dry after use. The drain plug at the bottom makes cleaning up fast.
The color is gender neutral, and the durability will make this the only tub we use throughout Campbell’s first years. The only that could be made better is if the safety warning sticker had not been placed on the inside, it was tough to remove it completely and there is still a bit of sticky residue. Other than that, we love bathtime and Campbell coos the entire time, which is a relief for this exhausted new mama! I would highly recommend this product to everyone I know.
