Although your days of sipping champagne and shucking oysters are over (at least for the next few months), there are plenty of foods to keep your love life spicy and your palate happy for the duration of your pregnancy.

These days, your libido is probably like a light switch, as you’re constantly turned on and off again at a moment’s notice. Between the raging hormones and sensitive stomach, it can be difficult to obtain the right mix of sexiness and physical stability. But if centuries of lovemaking have shown us anything, it’s that your tummy and your love-buttons are inexorably connected. Who knows, maybe one of these vivacious victuals will satisfy your wildest cravings, in and out of the bedroom.

Chocolate
From antiquity to a modern Valentine’s Day treat, chocolate has always been the number one way for men to get into women’s hearts (and pants).

In centuries past, it was such a popular passion-inducer that it was actually banned from monasteries. It is rumored that the Aztec emperor, Monteczuma, drank 50 goblets of chocolate a day to increase stamina, and Casanova would consume the melty delicacy before his many amorous conquests.

What these well-intentioned men were not aware of is the fact that women are generally more susceptible to the sexual benefits of chocolate. High in phenlethylamine and serotonin, chocolate can enhance feelings of happiness, desire and mimic the euphoric rush of falling in love.

The caffeine content in chocolate isn’t drastic enough to negatively affect your pregnancy diet either. As long as you watch how much you consume, it’s safe to say that a few bites of Hersheys will have you ready to take a roll in the hay.

Strawberries
Described as “fruit nipples,” strawberries have always been sexual in connotation. In ancient Rome, this plump little heart-shaped fruit covered in a sheath of oh-so-fertile seeds was the symbol of Venus, the goddess of love, and French newlyweds were once served chilled strawberry soup to get them revved up before their honeymoon.

Since then, this edible member of the rose family has been nibbled, pureed and covered in chocolate to stimulate sexual prowess. High in Vitamin C, strawberries can give you the energy to light your love-life flame and keep it burning all night long.

Avocado
This lil’ guy may be mushy, but it also has quite the randy reputation. Mayans and Aztecs viewed this rotund, buttery food as an erotic addition to their dinner table. They even referred to the avocado tree as “ahacuatl,” or “testicle tree,” because of the phallic way the fruit hangs from the bud in pairs.

Whether or not this vision gets your love-motor running, it’s good to know the avocado is one of the best pregnancy foods on the market. Loaded with fiber, beta-carotene, potassium, folate and vitamins B6, E and C, it’s good for you and your growing baby and it may even set off a few fireworks in the bedroom.

Almonds
The nut of choice with which Sampson wooed Delilah; the almond has been a sensual treat since the beginning of time. The smell is particularly enticing, which is why you may find many almond-based soaps and perfumes. High in Vitamin E and monounsaturated fats (the good kind that can lower cholesterol), almonds promote overall well-being, meaning a few nuts a day will leave you ready to play.

Asparagus
The long, green, libido-enhancing machine: asparagus. According to a 16th century Arabian love manual, this delicacy was recommended as a sexual stimulant, and in ancient Egypt, it was given as a bountiful offering to the gods.

Asparagus certainly could be considered divine; it’s filled with loads of nutrients, including potassium and vitamins A and E, which enhance your overall physical health and boost your sex drive.

It also contains more folic acid than any other vegetable, meaning it does a grand job of triggering histamine production, which can boost your orgasmic potential. This ensures that an asparagus-filled plate will lead to many happy endings for the duration of your pregnancy.

Bananas
Mirror, mirror, on the wall, which is the most phallic food of them all? Why, the banana, of course! World renowned for it’s naughty nature, the aesthetic and chemical composition of this fruit gives it an “R” rating.

Middle Eastern legend has it that as Eve was being tempted in the garden, the serpent hid amongst a bunch of bananas. Central Americans drink the sap of the red banana for its lust-inducing qualities, while Hindus regard the fruit as a symbol of fertility.

Aside from its erotic shape and demeanor, a sweet, creamy banana can enhance the production of sex hormones with its potassium and vitamin B packed flesh. Another perk: this fruit can quell morning sickness, which undoubtedly makes it the sexiest fruit around.
