The Maxi-Cosi Mico Air Protect (AP) arrived at my door a few days after the arrival of my gorgeous—if I do say so myself—son. (He arrived early, for the record; the car seat did not arrive late.) I was given strict orders not to lift anything heavier than him for two weeks. Because I’m a terrible patient, I decided to move the box inside. I was thrilled when I went to inch the box in the house, and it was so light! The Mico AP claims to be the lightest premium infant car seat on the market (I believe it) and weighs about 8.5 pounds without the base.

The manual for the car seat is located underneath the fabric on baby’s right side. But like most car seats on the market today, the basic instructions for installing and using the car seat and base are located right on the parts. Of course, read the manual thoroughly for handy tips, such as how to remove the cover to clean it. The manual is very easy to read and includes clear illustrations.
The Mico AP can be installed rear-facing. You can use the adjustable base or not, up to you. I prefer to use a base so you just “click” in and go when you’re ready. The car seat can be installed using the seat belt or the latch system on your vehicle. It’s very simple and just takes a couple minutes. There is an audible “click” so you’ll know the seat is locked into the base. Compared to other car seats I’ve used, the Mico AP doesn’t take up too much space and fits nicely in my compact SUV. The car seat is made for children 5-22 pounds and 19-29 inches. There is an adjustable canopy with a flip out visor that shades baby’s face from the elements. The release handle on the car seat is located on the back of the seat. It’s very easy to maneuver it while taking the seat out of the base at the same time.

The Mico AP features infant support and ultra-padded premium fabric. This fabric is so soft, I wish my driver’s seat was made of this material! I’ve spent a lot of money and time getting the plushest, softest blankets and clothes for my baby, so I’m glad the car seat is just as cozy. The straps adjust easily, and there’s a 5-point harness system and very secure head support. But, what every mom really wants to know: Yes, my baby fell right to sleep in this car seat!
