  • Your driver’s license and insurance card
  • A copy of your birth plan
  • Your own delivery gown (this it totally optional, but it can be a nice thing to put on after the actual birth when you’re ready for pictures.)
  • Socks and/or slippers
  • Your iPod, if you’d like to labor to music
  • Nursing gown or pajamas and a robe (Warning: They’ll likely get a little messy.)
  • A nursing bra or two
  • Maternity panties (You’ll still be needing them size-wise, and they’re bound to get ruined, so you might as well wear a pair you’ll be tossing anyway.)

  • Your makeup bag
  • Your toothbrush, deodorant and other toiletries
  • A hairbrush
  • Lip balm or gloss
  • A ponytail holder or headband
  • Chargers for your phone, camera, mp3 player, tablet, etc.

For baby

  • A going-home outfit (Tip: Opt for a kimono style top that doesn’t go over the head, a pair of pants that can go under baby’s umbilical cord stump and a hat.)
  • Swaddling blankets
  • A pacifier (if you’re planning to use one)

For dad

  • Cash (Don’t forget singles for vending machines!)
