Women who had high blood pressure before becoming pregnant are more at risk for this condition, so make sure to inform your doctor of your complete medical history.
Some women with preeclampsia do not notice any unusual warning signs, but be sure to notify your doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Hypertension
  • Excess swelling (especially of the hands or face)
  • Sudden weight gain
  • Constant or severe headaches
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Changes in vision
  • Racing pulse
  • Anxiety
  • Trouble catching breath
  • Mental confusion
  • Stomach or right shoulder pain
  • Lower back pain
