reslesslegsThis can be a frustrating pregnancy side effect, especially since it usually occurs when you are trying to get some much-needed sleep (the symptoms of RLS are often most noticeable when your body is in a state of rest). The bright side is that if you did not suffer from RLS prior to your pregnancy, it will most likely go away within two to four weeks after giving birth.
In the meantime, there are several quick and natural fixes that can get you through those last few months (although there are drugs that can relieve RLS, most doctors do not recommend them for pregnant women). Taking iron supplements can often be the cure for what ails you, but be sure to check with your physician before adding any vitamin or mineral supplements to your diet. Or, ask your partner to give you a quick leg massage before you hit the sack. Many women have also found that stretching before bedtime, taking a warm bath and avoiding caffeine or antihistamines can help ease RLS symptoms.
