The excitement is palpable around our house!Tomorrow, we have our 20-week ultrasound. This time around, we’re going to find out if we’re having a boy or a girl. I can hardly wait!

This has been a challenging pregnancy on several fronts, one being that we haven’t decided if we’re going to stay in our house. Not knowing what our living situation will be when the baby is born is doing a number on my pregnant emotions, even more now that those pesky nesting instincts are kicking in.
So the luxury of being able to find out (fingers crossed!) whether we are having a boy or a girl feels so wonderful. We will actually know something! I will be able to start making plans for the nursery. I can sort through Aaron’s baby clothes (why, oh why, did I save everything!?!?) and take out what we’ll actually be able to use. And that exciting but stressful chore of choosing a name will become only half as difficult. It feels like everything will get a little easier once we know.
For what it’s worth, we didn’t find out Aaron’s gender before he was born. Not really, anyway.Paul wanted to know, but I didn’t. We asked our ultrasound technician if she would write the baby’s gender down and seal it in an envelope in case we changed our minds, but she declined.
Fast-forward to two weeks before my due date: Aaron was breech and I was having regular ultrasounds to determine his position. Four days before he was born, Paul and I caved and asked if we were having a boy or a girl. We were still hemming and hawing about names, and narrowing it down helped a lot. We didn’t tell anyone else that we had found out, though. So the gender was a surprise to everyone except us.
This time, it feels right to find out earlier. As I said before, I have a hunch we have a little girl in there. But that’s only because this pregnancy feels so much different than the last.
Stay tuned for the big announcement next week!
