I don’t know who loves our Ingenuity Moonlight Rocking Sleeper Deluxe more—my little girl or me. Right now, it’s pretty much the only thing she will sleep soundly in, apart from her mama’s arms, but we all know that that isn’t a long-term solution (no matter how much I love a good cuddle).
The whole setup process was fairly simple. The instructions are all illustrations. But my husband and I are IKEA veterans, so this wasn’t an issue for us. I think we spent about 15 minutes get everything put together. (Full disclosure: If it had just been me, it might have taken another 10 minutes.)

It’s a bit smaller than a lot of sleepers I’ve seen, which could be a major plus for anyone living in tight quarters—or if you just don’t want a humongous piece of baby gear taking up your floor space.
For us, the compact size means it can easily fit next to our bed without any problems, so even when our baby girl is only snoozing for a few hours, I can feed her and get her back to sleep without much fuss because she’s right there within reach.
And you can rest easy knowing your babe is safe thanks to a secure three-point harness and mesh siding by the headrest. The seat also adjusts with two inclined positions, which is useful for infants with reflux.
The entire sleeper also folds in half, which makes it even slimmer and ideal for storage or travel. We haven’t taken ours on the road yet, but I already know it will be packed in our trunk for our upcoming summer vacation. Because our little girl isn’t on the move—or even sitting up—yet, she doesn’t need a full-sized play yard, which a lot of my friends use when traveling. I love that I can bring her “bed” from home with us when we take any trips or visit her grandparent for the weekend, so she’s comfortable and cozy in a sleeper that she knows and loves.

Aside from its shape and size, the Moonlight Rocking Sleeper comes with plenty of features. The vibration unit, in my opinion, could be a little stronger, but it seems to comfort my girl when she’s feeling extra fussy—as does the rocking motion, which she enjoys whether she’s wide awake or dozing off. (It’s the perfect little seat for her to be able to keep an eye on me—and vice versa—when I’m washing dishes or cooking.)
There’s also music that you can play (lullabies and nature sounds) and a night-light that projects stars onto the ceiling. We don’t use these much in our room because they keep my husband awake, but they’re great for soothing her at naptime during the day. You will need batteries, though! In my opinion, the minor annoyance of replacing them is worth being able to move it anywhere in our house without having to find a place to plug it in or worry about tripping over cords.
I will say, the attachments can make it a little more difficult to get baby in and out of the sleeper, but once you get the hang of it, you can do it pretty quickly. Our girl has already got some long legs (we’re thinking basketball superstar, just kidding), so I think she might outgrow the sleeper before she hits the 5-month cut-off. But we’ll use it as long as we can!

When it’s in need of a good scrubbing, just remove the seat pad and throw it in the washing machine with baby’s other laundry. (Somehow, there’s always something of hers that needs washing!) For the rest, you can simply wipe it down.
All in all, I think this is a great option for newborns who aren’t quite ready to sleep on their own in a crib or need a portable place to rest. And when I say portable, I don’t mean you have to be a jet setter—though it could come in handy if you were. We’ve used ours in virtually every room of the house, so our girl can nap or just hang out for short periods of time while I cook or even just hop in for a three-minute shower. And for that we are so grateful!
