"Ergobaby thought of it all with a large pocket (I carried my phone, burp cloth, and soothie), elastic bands (to corral the straps once you have adjusted the carrier to your fit), and a hood (to block the elements and even add privacy while breastfeeding)."
My husband’s three-week paternity leave came and went before I knew it; my mom finally went home, too. Left with a sleepy 6-week old baby and no extra helping hands, I needed support. The Ergobaby Original Carrier gave me just that. It took a little while to get comfortable wearing it, feeling bulky at first, but once I got the hang of putting it on and adjusting my son, it was a breeze.
I used my carrier a lot around the house when my son needed to be held. My Ergobaby gave me the opportunity to prepare my meals while my baby felt warm and secure. The infant insert was great at the beginning to raise my tiny guy up and support his head. When he gained more neck control, I used the carrier on its own and that allowed him to explore while I cleaned bottles or completed any task on my never-ending list.
This carrier also allowed us to get out of the house. Neighborhood walks on a chilly day seemed much easier with my guy wrapped up close, I found myself more at ease because I knew he was warm and safe. Trips to the store were great, too. I could move around without being concerned about trying to see over the car seat attached to the cart (I’m 5’1″) or walking away from a shopping cart and finding a stranger cooing over my newborn. The carrier is a great barrier when shopping because your child is as close as can be and the hood helps to keep germs at bay.
The Ergobaby Original Carrier can be worn in three carry positions front-inward, back, and hip. All carry positions are ergonomic for baby by supporting a natural seating position where the knees are slightly higher than the hips. The padded shoulder straps and sturdy waistband distribute the baby’s weight allowing for a more comfortable carry for parents.
Ergobaby thought of it all with a large pocket (I carried my phone, burp cloth, and soothie), elastic bands (to corral the straps once you have adjusted the carrier to your fit), and a hood (to block the elements and even add privacy while breastfeeding). I love that the Ergobaby Original Carrier comes in a multitude of colors and prints to fit every mom’s style and is machine washable. The Ergobaby Original Carrier is able to support your baby up to 45 pounds, making it a sound investment. Add in the infant insert, and you’ve got a carrier that will take you from newborn to toddlerhood—I don’t know a mom who doesn’t love longevity.
For me, the hardest part of wearing the Ergobaby Original Carrier would have to be the back clip—my arms just didn’t seem long enough. (Remember? I’m only 5’1″.) Thankfully, Ergobaby has many videos showing how to wear and secure the carrier, so I’ve gotten the hang of it with practice.
My son and I have just started our journey with baby wearing and the Ergobaby Original Carrier is a useful tool. It’s easy to snap on and go in just a couple of minutes and my curious son loves to explore in it. Not to mention, the Ergobaby Original Carrier always lulls him to sleep. I can’t wait to try different positions as he growns and maybe even become an expert at feeding him while he’s in the carrier as well.
