Double the fun: The birth of Aubree and Riley

This was my first pregnancy, and I was blessed to be having twin girls. I was at 30 weeks and was getting all the last details done. On February 11 I hadn’t been feeling well at all that day, and as soon as my mom got home, I told her my symptoms. She informed me I was in labor.

The next thing I knew I was in the emergency room with the nurse telling me I was 3 cm dilated.

They had to get me on medicine right away to stop the contractions. I was terrified that it was too early. After a few days and nights of no sleep, the doctor told me my enzymes in my liver were way too high, and if they didn’t go down, I would have to deliver.

On February 16 at 10:30 p.m., they told me I would be taken to the operating room and would have a C-section at midnight.

At exactly 12:20 a.m. Aubree was born, and at 12:22 a.m. her sister, Riley, followed. As soon as I heard them both cry, I knew everything would be OK. I got to see them before they were rushed to the NICU. Both girls weighed 3 pounds each.

As I write this story, it has been one week since their births. Both girls are still in the NICU, but are getting stronger every day. The doctor says they will have to stay at least five more weeks. These will definitely be the longest weeks of my life, but I know my girls are in good hands.
