Casual wavy hair that looks like you just walked out of the ocean may seem like one of those things you can never quite have once you’re away from the sun and the sand. But by stealing these tips from the stars, you can achieve the relaxed effortlessness that is beach hair.

For thick waves:

Tame curls into waves with a comb and this primer to discourage frizz but retain volume.

For fine, curly hair:

Spritz damp hair after shampooing and conditioning. Encourage hair into soft waves by twisting sections around fingers and let air dry.

For fine, straight hair:

Blow dry hair until it’s about 90 percent dry then wrap sections around big Velcro rollers. Let hair cool before removing rollers. Spray this wax into hair and tousle through to loosen waves.

For short hair:

Use no more than a dime-size dollop of this thick paste on damp hair to define waves and make locks piece-y.
