To err on the side of caution, we recommend staying away from any products that contain retinol.

If you find yourself unsure of whether or not a certain product is safe, it is always a good idea to check the list of ingredients. Some ingredients to avoid are: retin-a, retinol, Vitamin A, alpha-hydroxyl acid and salicylic acid. If a product lists a bunch of other scary sounding ingredients, a simple Google search may be able to provide you with some helpful information. A valuable website for checking out how safe different products are for you and baby is The Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database.

However, your safest bet is always to consult your physician before using any questionable beauty products. He or she will be able to provide you with a list of ingredients to stay away from. In general, Aveeno skin products are safe, gentle and can be found at any local drugstore. If you’re looking for an at-home peel, we recommend the oxygen peel by philosophy. It uses gentle ingredients and it’s safe to use if you’re nursing.
