Evenflo In The Garden ExerSaucer

Written by: Lauren

When I first laid eyes on the Evenflo ExerSaurcer WalkAround Active Learning Center, I knew it was something I’d have to try—I’d never seen anything like it! So when a trip to visit my nieces made it’s way onto my calendar, I knew it would be the perfect opportunity to put this intriguing piece of equipment to the test.

I pulled the pieces and parts out of the box about a half hour before my nieces joined me so I could see just what I was getting myself into. I was surprised to find I’d need a screwdriver, since I’m not a particularly handy person, but I managed to install the dozen or so screws without any trouble. Grace and Charleigh woke up with the last turn of the screw, and I soon had a 4-year-old assistant helping me snap the rest of the gadget together, while her 9-month-old baby sister played on the floor beside us.

From start to finish the WalkAround took around a half hour to put together (and would surely have taken even less time had we not spent 15 minutes discussing whether the butterfly would be better friends with the bumble bee or the flower!). We didn’t have photos on hand to add to the peek-a-boo family tree, but I took some that day, so we’ll be adding them just as soon as they’re printed.

Once assembled, we plopped little Miss Charleigh in to take it for a spin. She LOVED it! The bright and cheerful toys offered plenty of stimulation and interaction and she thoroughly enjoyed turning herself from one delightful toy to the next. I think she'd have been content to play for hours, honestly (but what aunt could resist holding her chunky little niece for more than 20 minutes at a time?).

Charleigh had a hard time revolving the ExerSaucer while it was on carpet, but once we moved it to the hard wood floor, she was walking in circles in no time! She loved being able to travel around on her own, and I took great comfort in the fact that her path was limited (unlike in a walker where she might detour and take a tumble down the stairs). Plus, there are two safety brakes that can be used to hold the WalkAround in place when needed.

Keep in mind that it does require a decent amount of space if you intend to let your baby “walk around” in it, and the 3 AAA batteries required for the lights and sounds of the family tree are not included, so be sure to have some on hand (or you may wind up with a disappointed toddler). The seat can adjust to three different heights to accommodate growing babes and is recommended for tykes from 4 months to walking age (who are a maximum of 30 inches tall).

This innovative learning center is smart and colorful (without being obnoxious), and it definitely earned the approval of my little girls. Surely Charleigh will spend a lot of time growing in her happy little garden with Grace tending to her every whim!
