What do you do when you’re on an extended road trip with an exhausted, squirmy and tearful 4-year-old that just can’t get comfortable enough to sleep in her car seat? In the short term, you can grit your teeth, get creative with alternative activities and try to pull through. However, you’ll eventually want to reconsider that car seat. My husband and I will be the first to vouch that this plush, top-of-the-line traveling option makes car trips more enjoyable for everyone.
When it became obvious that our daughter’s previous car seat wasn’t cutting it, my husband and I were drawn to the Viaggio HBB 120 for a number of reasons. Marketed for children 40 to 120 pounds and a maximum height of 57 inches, the Viaggio HBB 120 would give our daughter room to grow. This model also boasted features for increased protection and comfort of the rider: back support, total side impact protection, EPS in the headrest/seat cushion and a reclining seat. Finally, brand loyalty came into consideration, as we own several Peg-Pérego products that we love. We have found their products to be consistently well made, held to the highest safety standards and extremely attractive.
Upon arrival, assembly of the Viaggio HBB 120 was a breeze. Initially, I had only intended to peek at it, inspect the beautiful, two-toned upholstery and show off the color to my daughter (pink, her favorite). However, as I pulled the car seat out of its box, I was impressed to see that it came almost ready for travel as is. I snapped the backrest into position and adjusted the headrest to fit our little girl. Tada!
My husband had the slightly more challenging task of installing the seat into the car. Our former booster seat was secured only by a seat belt, while the Viaggio HBB 120 now snaps into our car’s LATCH system. We love the increased safety and stability this feature offers. The Viaggio HBB 120 stores its LATCH connector straps internally, which is a nice change of pace from pulling out a seat with straps hanging everywhere. The release for these connector straps was initially a bit tricky to find, but luckily Peg Perego’s included instructions were easy to follow. After locating the release on the base of the seat, securing the booster went quickly and easily.
A month later, lots of around town travel and another road trip under our belts, we have found more notable features of the Viaggio HBB 120. Our independent daughter loves that the shoulder belt router keeps her seat belt strap in check and attached to the booster, so that she can easily buckle herself. The seat also includes two pull out cup holders, providing a place for a drink AND a cup of snacks … or a convenient crayon holder, jewelry “box,” sunglass storage area, etc. The possibilities are endless for little imaginations and provide extra opportunities for independence. Lastly, the seat’s fabric appears to be very breathable, and on warm days our daughter has been very comfortable riding for both short and long trips. In the case of a spill, all of the upholstered covers are removable and machine washable.
We are very pleased with the Peg Perego Viaggio HBB 120 booster seat. It’s a solid and dependable buy for both everyday usage and special trips. Its safety features are top of the line, and its appearance can’t be beaten. But most importantly, it is a plush and comfortable seat that your child will enjoy riding in, resulting in happy travels all around.
