In a very short amount of time, my family size increased considerably with the birth of my twin girls, and with their arrival came a need for a safe way to transport them in our vehicle. We needed a car seat that our girls could grow up in, and we did not want to sacrifice safety for convenience or ease of installation.
Thankfully, with the Evenflo Platinum Symphony DLX All in One Car Seat, we ended up with the best of both worlds—a great car seat that could go from a rear-facing infant seat all the way up to a booster seat for a 110-pound child! Not only is the seat comfortable and convertible, I also had it installed from the box into the van in less than five minutes, thanks to the ingenious LATCH system. (More on that later!)
One thing that we wanted in a car seat was comfort for our daughters, and with some car seats we found that the padding was so thin that it would be miserable to sit in the seat for extended periods of time. We travel long distances quite often, so it was a relief to see the optional Body Pillow and Head Support, which helps support our daughter and keep her head from getting uncomfortable when she falls asleep. The comfy headrest pad also provides great support for napping kids.
Not only is the seat cushy and comfy, it is engineered to regulate temperature! The fabric actually absorbs cold and hot temperatures, and increases your baby’s comfort. I have no idea how the OUTLAST Performance Fabric works, but if it makes my daughter more comfortable, then it is a good thing! The only problem that I find is that the car seat does not come in a size that a parent can fit into—ha!
As with most infant car seats, there are instructions clearly printed on the side of the seat itself, and this allows for quick installation, although I also recommend reading the installation manual, which is stored on the seat itself as well, to ensure that you are installing it correctly. As I mentioned before, the Symphony DLX has an amazing method of securing to your vehicle’s LATCH system. With the SureLatch Connector, you simply click the connector into place, and then push down onto the seat with all of your body weight. This tightens the mechanism, and your seat is then tightly secured to the seat! There are no straps to pull, which I always struggled to get tight enough. If you are moving car seats between vehicles, the SureLatch Connector is a must.
As I mentioned before, the car seat is convertible, going from a rear-facing seat accommodating an infant from 5 to 40 pounds, and then forward-facing for children 22 to 65 pounds, and finally as a booster seat for kids who are 40 to 110 pounds. This could possibly be the only car seat that you ever need to buy! The Symphony switches from forward-facing to rear-facing quickly by changing the angle of recline, and then depending on your vehicle, you have to route a seat belt through the appropriate channels. The SureLatch Connector quickly reconfigures for forward-facing in a matter of minutes, and then installation in your new position is a breeze.
The headrest is adjustable; it can be set to a taller height as your child grows to be certain that your child is safe in the event of an impact. The shoulder straps are adjustable (The Infinite Slide Harness), by simply sliding them upward. This car seat does not require you to completely disassemble it in order to get the proper height of the shoulder straps for your child. This feature is great, as I know how big of a hassle it is to adjust some car seats and route straps through numerous slits and layers of padding.
One neat feature that this car seat has that I found to be very innovative is the Buckle Pockets. We live in an area where the summers are hot, and these neat little pockets allow you to tuck in the clips after removing your child, preventing you from burning your baby with a super hot buckle! The seat also has cup holders. We have used other Evenflo car seats in the past and were pleasantly surprised to see improvements with this model when we thought there was little room to improve at all. Molded into the car seat itself, there is a bungee type strap that allows the cup holder to hold a bottle, and then eventually cups of water or juice. In the past, we had Evenflo products that simply had a clip-on cup holder, which we lost and never really used. This new cup holder is a great improvement.
Cleaning a car seat is never an easy task, and so I do not expect that the Symphony DLX is any different. You can remove the seat pad and machine-wash it, and then use a wet cloth to clean the seat itself. We have yet to clean the seat; however, the pad removes somewhat easily, and I don’t think that it is going to be too much of a hassle.
I recommend the Symphony DLX to anyone who is in the market for a great product that their child can grow into, and you can be certain that with the e3 Side Impact Protection will keep your precious cargo safe whenever you are on the go.
