    Lassig Backpack

Written by: Jillian March 31 2011

When I first had kids, I was a big fan of the stylish, leather, mom-friendly diaper bag. Then my kids learned to walk, run and argue, and I realized that what I really needed was a sturdy backpack that allowed me to go hands-free, so I could have one hand to grab each child as they attempted to dash away from me. Plus, my kids and I enjoy going to the park and other public play areas, and it always made me cringe a little to put my super-chic (and expensive) bag onto the dirty bench or, even worse, the ground. Luckily, I decided to spring for a more practical option, and I couldn’t be happier with the Lassig backpack.

What first drew me to the Lassig were its eco-conscious qualities: All the materials are free from PVC, AZO, Phtalates, Nickel, and Cadium. Beyond that, I appreciated the organization of the backpack. There are two large compartments, each with smaller pouches and zipper pockets inside, plus a small pouch on the front (perfect for your cell phone, keys and sunglasses). There is a side pocket for drinks, and stroller clips are also included. I also love how sturdy the bag feels: It is very solidly constructed and dirt and spills wipe up nicely off the fabric.

The accessories that come with this backpack are exactly what you need: an insulated bottle (or in my case, sippy cup) holder and a changing mat. There is a nicely sized pocket designed for wet and/or dirty duds, which is great since it eliminates my need to carry a separate wet bag.

All in all, this bag is still your basic backpack, but it is a step up with its added mom-friendly qualities and features. I’ve now used our backpack on day trips, an amusement park trip, a day at the aquarium, and a plane ride with my kiddos, and I’ve been happy with it every time. I think it’s a great bag for moms who are ready to make the practical switch to a bag that’s a little more kid-geared.

I still use my fancy-pants bags for outings that require a step up in style from a backpack, but for most of the tasks our busy lives require, I leave the house with my Lassig in hand (or on shoulder). It’s a great investment, plus it’s eco-friendly and easy to clean. This bag is a busy mom’s dream come true!
