I am a self-proclaimed bottle expert. And with good reason—I’ve tried them all.

My son turned down every bottle that Target and Babies-R-Us sells … seriously, every single one! When I was still at home on maternity leave and nursing full-time we didn’t worry much about it—we were certain that when I went back to work he would take a bottle. After all, he would have to if he wanted to eat, right? Not exactly. He refused the bottle for 10 straight hours one day, until I arrived to breastfeed him. It was very stressful, and I eventually ended up taking a leave of absence —I couldn’t let the poor child starve!

Now that Charlie is on solids we have started working with him on the sippy cup, and he is making some great strides (though nothing compares to dear old mom). I do, however, still keep my eye out for bottles that look promising in the hopes of helping other moms who find themselves in a similar situation. I was very intrigued when I stumbled upon the Nursin’ Smart Natural Nurser: It is such an innovative take on a bottle. The Nursin’ Smart is made of a soft silicone that can easily be squeezed—a great feature if your little one is anything like mine and unsure of how to actually get anything out of a bottle. The nipple also has an interesting shape. Many of the bottle nipples that we tried seemed too big for my little man, and would almost block his nose. The Nursin’ Smart has a deep flat base which creates a more natural nursing-like experience.

Another thing that I found really interesting about the Nursin’ Smart bottles were the awesome accessories that make it easy for it to grow with your child. Something our babysitter frequently did with Charlie was to spoon or cup feed him, just to get something into his poor hungry tummy. The Nursin’ Smart has a Silicone Spoon attachment, that coupled with the squeezability of the bottle would make spoon or cup feeding so much easier, faster and more effective. You can also purchase a cool Straw Cup Converter Kit for when your little one is a bit older. I love products that you can use from infancy to toddlerhood, and the Nursin’ Smart will definitely grow with your little one. If you’re having trouble getting your baby to take a bottle or are expecting and looking for a cool bottle option, check out the Innobaby Nursin’ Smart Natural Nurser!
