    Babymel Ruby Rucksack

    Dear Ruby,

I’m not quite sure how to say this, but I think I’ve fallen for you. Shhh, it’s okay. I know you can’t love me back, but I’ll settle for your simple charm and functionality.

It all started innocently enough. There I was, a mom in need of a medium-size, zippered diaper bag with an unpretentious attitude. And there you were, Ruby Rucksack, showing off your zipper and magnetic flap closure—drawing me in with your bonus shoulder strap. I should have known youwould become my favorite, but I was naïve then. I was still carrying on with another diaper bag.

At first, I thought you wouldn’t be able to handle my baggage. I’m not a light packer and other bags in my past couldn’t make it work. When you let me pack all my essentials and still left room for toys and my wallet, I was surprised. Thank you for that. When I carried you through that crowded restaurant and you stayed by my side without hitting other diners, unlike my larger diaper bag, I appreciated your soft rounded corners. You’re my out-and-about bag—the one I grab when baby and I will only be away for a few hours.

That soft, leather-like exterior is attractive and you know it. So is your cute interior—and both wipe clean with no hassle. Black with brown accents, you go with everything and never clash with my outfits…who am I kidding? You make my outfits look better. I’d take you with me even without the baby. That’s how nice you look on my shoulder.

You’re not just good looking, Ruby, you’re full of smart features like your removable, insulated bottle sleeve, four large interior pockets and one zippered interior pocket. You even have two outer pockets that zip for easy access. You’re so thoughtful. My husband, who’s more of a messenger bag guy, carried you several times with no complaint. Then again, how could he complain? You have seven pockets!

I also love that your backpack straps are easily tucked and anchored so I have the option of wearing you like a regular diaper bag. Your strap has never slipped off my shoulder either. Nope. You stay where I put you. Any mom with a wiggleworm baby knows the importance of a strap that stays in place. As a backpack you are a comfortable, out-of-the-way diaper bag that allows me to go hands free. Your padded straps fit well even when I’m wearing a baby carrier up front.

Would I recommend you, Ruby? Certainly. There are plenty of moms out there who need an attractive (yet understated) functional backpack that carries plenty for running errands but not enough for the entire weekend. That’s exactly why I needed you. Besides, you don’t have to be like the big bags, I love you just the way you are.

    Love,
    Alyson
