The AngelCare Movement and Sound Monitor is very lightweight and small. Because it is shaped like an angel, I have named it Gabe so that each night I can tell my baby that Gabe is going to watch him during the night. I know that he is going to love it when he is old enough to be aware of it.
I found the manual to be very useful and easy to follow in the set up of the AngelCare monitor. I am not one for technology, in fact my husband is typically the one to set up any type of devices in our house but when we received the monitor I was too excited to wait on him to set it up so I read the directions and did it myself. The only assembly required was putting in the batteries (they are rechargeable and supplied by the company) and that took a small Phillips screwdriver and just a few minutes!
The product performs wonderfully and is very easy to use. The monitor comes with a special pad that can be placed underneath the crib mattress that monitors the baby’s movement. If there is a lack of movement for 20 seconds then an alarm will sound on the handheld device. The one hiccup that I have found is that the thermometer on the monitor does not seem to tell the correct temperature of the room. I have found that when I go to turn it off in the morning that it is very warm to the touch, so Iam inclined to think that the thermometer is reading the heat from the monitor itself instead of the actual room temperature.
My child was sleeping in a bassinet in our bedroom but since receiving the monitor I was able to put him in his own room in his crib. I felt safe with him in the other room since I could both see and hear him with the monitor. I would say that if we had a monitor without video capablities then he would still be in the bassinet in my room for sure.
I don’t think that I would make any changes to the monitor. I have used it for about a month and a half and I have found it to be a huge help and a great sense of security. One nice feature is the walkie-talkie button. The first night that my son was in his crib he was crying and knew that this wasn’t his normal place beside mom so I pushed the button and simply said his name and he stopped crying and went right to sleep.
I would definitely recommend this product to my friends and family members.My best friend just had a little boy that was born nearly 12 weeks early. He is still in the NICU but will be able to come home in the next few weeks. I am planning on sending an AngelCare monitor to her so that she can have an extra set of eyes as she stays at home with her son.
