To be honest, both my husband and me were kind of dreading the class. (We didn’t admit this to each other until afterwards, though.) We both pictured stodgy, Lamaze-type classes with cheesy breathing exercises, class-speak that dogged on husbands and weird voodoo. What can we say—we watch a lot of 90s television.
In reality, we both loved our first class, and we are excited for this week’s session! The Bradley Method Birthing class focuses on natural birth without the use of medication or much medical intervention. This class teaches the coaches (husbands, etc.) how to help their mommas through labor. It is very much a medical practitioner hands-off, husband hands-on learning environment.
We focused a lot on the anatomy of pregnancy, which I find particularly fascinating, and how to use exercises and movements to use the anatomy of pregnancy to our advantage during labor. If you’re goal is to have a natural birth, I already highly recommend looking up Bradley Method classes in your area.
At home, the nesting is really starting to kick in. I’ve thrown away so many things from every closet, bedroom, and storage nook and cranny in this house! I painted a quote to hang in between our son’s bedroom doors, and we got a baby shower present from my mother-in-law that I’ve been instructed not to open until our baby shower. It’s torture!
My baby bump still comes and goes, depending on what I’ve had to eat that day. Some hours I look like I just had a big lunch, and some hours I look like I’m about to pop! We have another midwife appointment next week, and of course our birthing class on Sunday. It’s all starting to feel very real!
