downloadAs 2014 comes to a close and we get ready to ring in the New Year, people all around the world start to set goals and create resolutions to guide them in the new year (or at least the first few days of the new year.)
I thought it was the perfect opportunity to sit down and think about some goals for the rest of this pregnancy and for the new year with a new babe …
Relax and enjoy the rest of this crazy ride. This resolution will probably not be easy, but hey, it is at least worth a shot.
Get the nursery ready and the clothes washed. We started tackling this huge project this past week, and I have a feeling we will be more ready for this little one than our first. At least we have a better idea of what is important, and what we don’t really need (read: peepee teepees and a wipe warmer).
Make it to full-term. This isn’t an issue for most of you ladies out here, but after delivering early with my first, I am hoping and praying to make it the full, uncomfortable 40 weeks.
Try to stay positive about myself and the changes that are happening to my body. It ain’t always pretty, but this body is doing a beautiful thing.
Figure out how I’m going to wear this little baby as much as possible. I carried my first quite a bit in my carrier, but I have a feeling this second one will live in a carrier like a baby kangaroo in a pouch. I want to look into more options on what I want and what will be the most comfortable for both baby and Mama.
Try to accept that my new little girl CAN and SHOULD wear some of the more gender-neutral sleepers and onesies from my son’s stash. Even if it is just at home, I can live with it and someone mistaking her as a boy is not the end of the world.
I want to not spend another dollar on a piece of maternity wear. I think I can make it through the next 11 weeks with what I have. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can …
Figure out a name for this little one. I will not be the parent that takes her Baby “No Name” Robertson home from the hospital.
Really think about what values I want to instill in my daughter. I love that a new life is the possibility of so many amazing things. No matter what, I want this little baby to know that her dad and I love her beyond words. And I want to be always remember to be purposeful in how we interact with our children and teach them how to share love with those around them.
Make a birth plan. You make a grocery list, a to-do list, an agenda for a vacation … PLAN FOR THE DELIVERY ROOM. Even if you don’t follow your plan completely, at least you’ve thought about what you want (and also what you DON’T want) and can be on the same page with your significant other.
What would you all add to this list? Any goals you have set for yourself in the rest of your pregnancy? 3 … 2 … 1 … HAPPY NEW YEAR!
