Whoa, y’all. It is getting mighty warm down here in The Lonestar State. We had our first 100 degree day already. This usually happens in mid-July and then stays that way until close to September. I’m a little nervous as to what the rest of the summer will bring for this momma! My plan is to just camp out on the couch with the A/C and fan blowing on me at all times. I’ve even gotten the dog on board with this plan. He’s permanently stuck to my very sweaty hip, and he’s adorable.
Let’s talk about borrowing. I’m usually not keen on borrowing things from people because I know I have a penchant for forgetting to give the thing(s) back. (See also: The Tupperware that’s been sitting on our kitchen counter for six months waiting to be returned to our neighbor.)
I’m changing my tune with baby stuff, though. I know we’ll be powering through a lot of different things very quickly, and I’m pretty stingy when it comes to spending money. We’ve been gifted a few hand-me-downs, like a baby swing and clothes, from friends who have kids that have outgrown them (or didn’t like the apparatus to begin with) with no-strings attached. We have good people!
I’m here to let you know what I’m most excited about. We have decided to cloth diaper, much to my husband’s chagrin. I am a bit of a recycling nutcase, and I couldn’t bear the thought of putting nearly one ton of diaper trash into our local landfill. I’ve been in there, and it’s not pretty! Furthermore, I couldn’t stomach how much money we would be spending on disposables. Que the mighty cloth diaper.
I was a little taken aback by how much these cost up front, but they quickly pay for themselves, so I wasn’t too worried. I put as many as we need on our registry, and I am hoping for the best. Our shower is scheduled for mid-September, so I’ll have time to buy/wash/organize them before baby gets here.
The reason for my long-winded diaper tale is this: Borrowing cloth diapers ROCKS!
A friend of mine from high school has two of the cutest babies you’ll ever see. Bright blue eyes, bleach blonde hair (that will later turn jet black—thanks genetics!), and the cutest collection of cloth diapers around.
She’s letting me borrow all her newborn-size cloth diapers! What! It’s saving us so much money, and I can’t even get over how cute all of the prints are. There’s even a Harry Potter diaper, y’all. Be still my heart!
The moral of the story is, keep in touch with your fellow mommas if that’s your thing. They’ll be valuable resources in advice and baby gear!
