Fall in Atlanta has got to be one of my favorite seasons. With the leaves changing and the temperatures dipping, we spend more time outdoors and even leave our windows open during the day. I think the fall season also lends itself to be a time for change. At least for me, that seems to be the case. Maybe it has something to do with school starting in the fall. It’s like a reset button every year. And this year, it seems as though our reset button is about to really be pushed.
move4We are currently living in a condo unit that we are renting. It’s got an amazing view of the Atlanta skyline, it overlooks a historic cemetery, and it’s in a fairly walkable area. Not to mention, the neighborhood we’re in is super family-friendly and is nestled in Atlanta’s oldest park, Grant Park. In short, I love where we are right now. But (there’s always a “but”), because we are renting and because it is a two-bedroom condo, we also know that this isn’t our “forever home” and that we will most likely outgrow this place faster than we think.
Then we got an email a couple of weekends ago saying that the developers of our condo building decided to sell our condo. Basically, we have to move. We had mixed emotions about this for various reasons. This place has so much going for it. And I personally have an attachment to this place. I mean, I gave birth to Akira in this condo, remember? So there are a lot of feelings going on.
Also, the idea of moving for the nth time in the past three years makes my stomach turn a little. It was hard enough moving with Anaïs, but to even think of packing up the house with both her and her infant brother in tow seems incredibly daunting and downright exhausting. To give you an idea of why I’m not exactly bursting at the seams over this news, look at the photos. Those are five separate moves. FIVE. Since 2012. In case it isn’t abundantly clear, I am over it.
Moves
A big reason we opted to be renters for so long was because we honestly didn’t know how long we were planning on staying in Atlanta. But the longer we’re here, the more sense it makes to stay. It’s relatively affordable and is still considered a real city. However, the most important reason we’re staying is because it’s such a great place to raise a family. That’s the bottom line. And there’s no denying that we are a family with two kids and a dog. So now what?
Well, it appears as though we’re on the hunt for a house. To buy! I’m excited and nervous at the same time. We are always up for a challenge and because Jesse and I are both fairly DIY when it comes to the home, it wouldn’t surprise me if we made life a little crazier by going for a little fixer-upper instead of a move-in-ready home. Because, why not? I’m pretty sure we’re ready to put down some roots, at least for a while. I read somewhere that, “All great changes are preceded by chaos.” I have a feeling that this time in our lives will be one of the greatest changes we encounter.
