Like almost all expecting parents, I’m starting to wonder whether this little person inside me is a boy or a girl. Right now, I have my money on “girl.”I have some good reasons, too.
So far, this pregnancy has been a lot harder than my first.I’ve felt more nauseous and tired, and I’ve vomited more often.At 13 weeks, the morning sickness is not showing much sign of letting up.I have heard it’s the extra estrogen that makes you feel sick. That’s a sure sign of a girl, right?
Also, I’m definitely breaking out with more prenatal acne this time around, which is one of those old wives’ tales that predicts a girl.
And I just have a feeling—call it mother’s intuition. That’s probably the best evidence. A study at the University of Arizona found University that women who claimed to have an intuition about the gender of their child made the right choice 70 percent of the time.
I won’t fib—since we already have a son, it would be exciting to add a daughter to our household.Although, I wonder what my son would think of that.Being an only child, it’s tough for me to gauge what it’s going to be like to have two kids.
One of my worries is that older brother/younger sister relationships tend to be a little strained. He’ll think her princess dresses are annoying, and get frustrated when she knocks down the tower he built. But there are some sweet aspects to older brothers and younger sisters too, right?Maybe he’ll want to vet all of her high school dates ahead of time.Am I in dreamland here?
My guess is that if he understood what was going on (we haven’t officially told him yet that we’re having another baby) he would choose a boy.I can see the two of them romping around in the yard in a few years, catching bugs and building forts. That would be really exciting too.
In any case, we’ll find out in a few months.We didn’t find out our son’s gender until a last-minute ultrasound a few days before he was born. But this time, it feels a little bit better to be prepared—for all of us.
