After two years, my first diaper bag is ripped, worn and tattered. With a toddler, I find it easier to stuff a few extra things—a few diapers, a sippy cup, and a snack—into my bag. But with a new baby on the way, I’m pretty sure we’re going to have to go back to a full-on diaper bag with the whole kit and caboodle. The question is which one?
Our first diaper bag we picked out at Babies ‘R’ Us on a mad spree to register for baby gear.It was a messenger shaped bag with a zipper on top and two large outside pockets. Inside were lots of little pockets. And the sides of the bag had two insulated compartments for bottles. It worked fine for the day care slog, although I never felt particularly organized, and there were always a few things bursting out of the top.
For our next bag, I know we’ll need something bigger. We use cloth diapers, which take up quite a bit more space than disposables. I’m hoping not to have two kids in diaper at the same time, but that may be wishful thinking on my part. And living in a colder climate, I tend to carry more warm gear around in the winter time, like warm blankets, hats and mittens.
Oh, and my husband insists on a non-girly pattern if he’s going to carry it. (Since he is great about taking our son out for little adventures on the weekends, I don’t want to do anything to discourage him.)
As far as I can tell, that doesn’t leave me with many options.I’ve been eyeing the SkipHop Dash Deluxe, but I’m just not sure it will be big enough.I’m also enthralled with the Built NY Diaper Bag because it seems like it will be useful long past the diapering stage. And I’m always inspired by the beautiful handmade creations on Etsy, like this or this.(The scooter print makes that bag masculine, right?)
Readers, any thoughts?
