Twice each week for the past eight months, I have been sharing whatever silly or sweet thing has happened most recently happened in the life of my little guy. But, today, instead of sharing something with you, I’m going to ask you to share something with me: Your best tips for keeping an eight-month-old entertained.
Lately, Jacob and I have been stuck in a rut, and we’re both going a little stir crazy. Because I work from home year-round and Jacob isn’t school-age yet, I figured we would be immune to the summer boredom blahs. But, alas, it isn’t so. With the temperatures so high during the day, Jacob and I have been stuck inside hour. After hour. After hour. The kid is literally climbing the walls. Proof:
As of now, our regular daily routine includes the usual fun baby-stuff, like reading stories and playing with his toys, as well as “playing” the piano, splashing around in his kiddie pool or the “big” pool in our HOA and taking walks during the cooler hours. Some days, we have play dates with our neighbor and her little boy and dog.
But, still, the boredom persists.
It’s gotten so bad that today I kept him busy by having him chase the light from a flashlight around our curtain-darkened room. And, as if that wasn’t enough, I followed that gem up by parking him in front of some cartoons for a bit. Pathetic. I know. No need to judge. I’m judging myself enough for both of us.
As silly as this may sound, I’m getting a little worried that it won’t be long before Jacob figures out how truly boring his mother is. I’ve always been acutely aware that I’m not great with kids, and considering that the one kid in the world who is most likely to like hanging out with me seems to be bored only reinforces the feeling.
I imagine that when Jacob gets a bit older, there will be lots more to do. We’ll do craft projects, make something in the kitchen or go on nature walks. But, at his age, none of those things work. So, my question for you is, what EXACTLY do you do with an eight-month-old?
Keep in mind that Tom and I share the car between us, and he uses it for work throughout the day. So, any ideas have to involve being at home. I know. It totally cuts down the possibilities. But that leaves room for you guys to show off your creativity.
And, please, show it off fast before I resort to the flashlight and cartoons again.
