Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about choices and making plans, specifically a birth plan. I’ve never really been a big believer in having too much of a plan when it comes to giving birth because so many factors can change that plan in a second (or heart beat). I’ve been watching births and reading birth stories and I find that the ones that really inspire me are those of the natural/water birth variety. There is this really beautiful peacefulness that surrounds the stories that always resonates with me.
With my first daughter, Matilda, I was induced and spent about 20 hours in a hospital bed hooked up to all sorts of things (you can read more here) and it was still hands down the most amazing day of my life. So, I guess I’m trying to find my path and what’s best for my family this go around. My husband gets really anxious whenever I talk about home births or midwives. He’s terrified that something will go wrong. I can understand that he wants us to be in the best care possible, but I’m hopeful that we can come to an arrangement that makes us both happy.
I’ve heard of people switching gears late in the game, but I also don’t want to increase my stress level by making a complete 360. I like my doctor and I trust her. I’ve thought about working with a doula and trying for a natural hospital birth. I know it can be done because I have friends who’ve had them. I would love to hear if you’ve had a similar experience. Hypnobabies, doulas, midwives? I’d love to hear your stories.
