Though there’s a lifetime of lessons to teach your little one, she came already equipped with a few tricks of her own. Test out these reflexes and prepare to be amazed by your newborn baby’s brilliance.
Babkin: Press your thumb into baby’s palm and her mouth will open.
Rooting: Brush baby’s cheek and she will turn her head in that direction and open her mouth.
Palmar: Place an object in the palm of baby’s hand and she will grasp it.
Babinski’s: Stroke baby’s foot from heel to toe and her toes will flare upward and turn in.
Stepping: Hold baby upright with her feet against a flat surface and she will lift her legs, mimicking walking.
Want to know what else baby can do? Watch for these innate infant reactions.
Moro: If baby becomes startled, her arms and legs will shoot out before she quickly pulls them back in.
Tonic Neck: When lying on her back with her head turned to one side, baby will extend the arm on that side and bend the arm on the other side, assuming the “fencing” position.
