Follow these four simple steps to stay proactive about your oral hygiene during pregnancy.
1. Brush regularly.
Try to polish your pearly whites after every meal and at least twice a day. Whenever possible, use toothpaste that contains fluoride.
2. Don’t forget to floss.
Skipping the string can lead to tooth decay and cavities.
3. Schedule a checkup.
Maintain your regular cleaning schedule so your dentist can remove plaque and tartar that brushing can’t reach.
4. Know your options.
If you need dental work done, talk to your dentist about pregnancy-safe numbing agents and antibiotics.
Did you know?
If you have swollen gums that sometimes bleed, you aren’t alone. A common complaint amongst the expectant crowd, this type of inflammation known as pregnancy gingivitis is caused by hormonal changes that increase blood flow to
gum tissue.
