Off the beaten path

For the past several months I’ve been on the prowl for nursery art that is of the more unique variety. I’ve rounded up a variety of art options that are perfect for mommies looking for something a little different for the nursery.

Every child goes through a phase where they are really interested in animals. If your little one is in love with animals then take a stroll over to The Animal Print Shop for a wide variety of unique animal photography. Artist Sharon Montrose has created a huge collection of unique, modern animal prints ideal for the nursery. Choose either a small, 7”x 9” open edition print, or invest in a larger limited edition piece.

This happy little character was created by Sarah Neuburger of The Small Object. She creates a variety of interesting artworks and other unique finds. This print, The Balloon Bunch, is a lovely way to add a bit of sunshine to your child’s space.

I love the idea of photography in the nursery. It doesn’t get much better than the amazing photography of Elizabeth Soule. Her singular approach to her art form is perfect for a nursery, child’s room, or playroom. I love the print Idaho (pictured above)from her Objects and Collections set—perfect for a little boy. You also have to check out her Little Zoo collection which would be great for a girl, boy, or a gender neutral nursery design. Each piece is printed on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper using Epson archival inks and safely packaged.

Speckled Spectacle is a beautiful hand-colored etching by Specks & Keepings. This sophisticated piece features a dense collection of busy people. It is perfect for a nursery, but is also a classic piece that will grow with your child and family.

I love Paula Mills’ unique take on the traditional alphabet print. She uses a mix of hand drawn images, vintage imagery, and a variety of typography to create an amazing work of art that has the feel of a quilt—perfect for the nursery. Each print is printed on high quality, heavyweight, bright white card stock, and printed using archival inks. Finished with the date and artist’s signature this piece is a pleasant addition to a little girl’s space.
