Healthy Child Healthy World is a non-profit organization whose mission states “We ignite the movement that empowers parents to protect children from harmful chemicals.” Their goal is to help people become aware of the ways that they can make a difference and create a greener, safer, healthier environment for everyone. One of their programs, Mom on a Mission, showcases mothers who are dedicated to causes near and dear to their hearts and who are furthering the work of these causes on a grand scale that benefits many.
From January through August, nominations are taken for each month’s Mom on a Mission, and in September, the pool is put to a vote to decide 2012’s mom of the year. The winner is announced in November and given a grand prize at a special event in New York City. Here are this year’s nominees:
“Along with my husband, Paul, I opened the Los Angeles office of the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation and quickly began enlisting friends and supporters to join our cause. We’ve held numerous events, joined with celebrity supporters for fundraising projects, and turned the spotlight on EB by appearing on ‘Oprah’ and getting features in magazines. We have raised nearly $4 million for research, currently fund three major university studies, and helped many EB families with basic needs such as wheelchairs, specialized beds, bandages and other medical necessities that insurance will not cover. We’ve also helped introduce EB families to natural healing creams for their children’s wounds.”

My vision is to empower women to obtain social, economic, and political opportunities to improve the quality of life for their families. My goals are to increase access to community colleges and four–year institutions and to provide counseling and legal representation for socioeconomically disadvantaged families. I hope to establish a non-profit organization to provide women with training, counseling and technical support, and develop a political platform to promote the rights of young people and increase funding to support educational programs for youth, women and their families.

[Gas] companies will begin the drilling process in the next couple of weeks. It will be visible from my son’s classroom. The only access to the site will be from the road which runs right in front of the school. Let me repeat that, “The only access to the site will be from the road which runs right in front of the school” because while there is another road that is actually closer to the drilling site, this road cannot be used for drilling transportation because the chemical-carrying trucks are not allowed to cross railroad tracks on the course of their path.
At what point are children more valuable than railroad tracks?
