Make room for baby: Playroom makeover

Written by: Candace January 28 2011

I’ve already started brainstorming ways to keep my new baby safe in Charlie’s big mess of a playroom.

He has toys large and small spread everywhere. Crayons and markers scatter the floor and piles of books clutter the room. It is in short, a big mess! Here is my plan for updating the space from a toddler’s paradise to a comfy shared space for a big boy and a baby.

With an artist for a mother, Charlie was bound to enjoy crafting. He has boxes of crayons and markers that are typically strewn everywhere. My plan is to create a space for him to create, that is up off the floor, away from exploring hands, and tiny mouths.

My top choice is this adorable table and chair set by Guidecraft. This adorable set is truly a work of art, with hand-painted and hand-carved details it is the perfect inspiration for this playful setting. The set is very well-made and assembles easily for a sturdy, long-lasting life in the playroom or nursery.

We’ve owned the Expedit Bookcase from Ikea for several years. It served in my studio and then Charlie’s nursery until recently it landed in the playroom. It is perfect for the space and provides a home for books, toys, and art supplies. Perfect!

Create a fun, safe space for baby to comfortably play with these Interlocking Foam Tiles by Skip Hop. Playspot comes in several funky color combinations that work great with any design plan. I chose the Brights set to add a splash of funky color to the space.

These affordable fabric bins by ITSO come in a variety of colors and fit perfectly on the Expedit Bookcase. They hold up well to rough little hands and hold tons of toys!

These fun wall decals are the perfect alternative to a hand painted mural. Use them to decorate either walls or the storage unit for a fun, custom look at an affordable price.

Diaper changes are just part of life with a baby so it’s best to keep all the necessary supplies close at hand. This sweet diaper caddy by JJ Cole keeps diapers, wipes, and other supplies conveniently bundled so diaper changes don’t require a trip to the nursery.
